Frequently Asked Questions

What is life coaching?

Life coaching is a forward-focused, supportive partnership that helps you gain clarity, reduce overwhelm, and move forward with intention.

Coaching is not about fixing you or telling you what to do. It’s about helping you:

  • Clarify what matters most

  • Identify what’s getting in the way

  • Build structure and confidence

  • Take meaningful next steps

At On Course Family Coaching, coaching is calm, practical, and supportive — designed for capable people navigating real-life pressure and transitions.

Who is life coaching for?

Life coaching is a good fit if you:

  • Feel capable but overwhelmed

  • Are navigating a transition or season of change

  • Feel stuck, scattered, or unsure of next steps

  • Want clarity and structure without pressure

  • Are open to reflection, growth, and forward movement

You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin — clarity often comes through the coaching process.

What does a coaching session look like?

Sessions are structured, calm, and conversational.

Depending on your needs, sessions may include:

  • Clarifying priorities or decisions

  • Exploring what’s creating stress or stuckness

  • Identifying strengths and patterns

  • Building simple systems or routines

  • Reflecting on progress and adjusting direction

You’ll leave sessions with clarity and practical next steps, not pressure.

How long does coaching last?

Coaching is most effective when there’s time to build insight, practice skills, and create lasting change.

Many life coaching clients choose:

  • 3 months for clarity and direction

  • 6 months for deeper growth and consistency

  • 12 months for ongoing support through transitions and seasons

Academic Coaching Students

  • Semester-Long choose between Fall (Aug-Dec) or Spring (Jan-May) Semester

  • Year-Long for ongoing support through the academic year (Aug-May)

There is no one-size-fits-all timeline — we’ll find what fits your needs.

How do I know if coaching is right for me?

A free discovery call is the best way to explore this.

During the call, we’ll:

  • Talk through what you’re experiencing

  • Discuss what you’re hoping for

  • Determine whether coaching is a good fit

There’s no pressure to commit — just a conversation.

How is coaching different from counseling or therapy?

This is a common (and important) question.

Coaching:

  • Focuses on the present and future

  • Is goal-oriented and action-based

  • Supports clarity, structure, and follow-through

  • Does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions

Counseling/Therapy:

  • Focuses on mental health, healing, or past trauma

  • Involves diagnosis and treatment

While I have a background as a school counselor, On Course Family Coaching provides coaching services only. If you are seeking mental health treatment, therapy would be a better fit.

What if I don’t know my goals yet?

That’s completely okay — and very common.

Many clients begin coaching thinking:

“I just know something needs to change, but I can’t name it yet.”

Coaching helps you clarify goals as you go, rather than requiring you to arrive with them fully formed. We take things one step at a time.

How often do we meet?

Most clients meet biweekly or weekly, depending on the coaching package and level of support desired.

During your discovery call, we’ll discuss:

  • Your goals

  • Your availability

  • What level of support feels right

Together, we’ll decide on a rhythm that supports steady progress without overwhelm.

Is this coaching faith-based?

My approach is faith-informed and values-centered, but always respectful of where you are.

Clients who want to integrate faith, values, or purpose into their coaching are welcome to do so. Coaching remains client-led, supportive, and non-prescriptive.

What if I’ve tried coaching (or self-help) before and it didn’t work?

That’s understandable — not all coaching styles are the same.

My approach is:

  • Calm and grounded

  • Structured but flexible

  • Supportive without micromanagement

  • Focused on sustainable growth, not quick fixes

If you’re thoughtful, capable, and looking for steady guidance rather than hype or hustle, this approach may feel different — and more supportive.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple:

  1. Schedule a free discovery call

  2. Explore fit, goals, and support options

  3. Choose a coaching path that feels aligned

If you’re ready for clarity, steadiness, and forward movement, coaching may be the next right step.
