Answering the 5 W’s

Life Coaching vs. Counseling

Life coaching is not therapy.

Coaching:

  • Is future-focused and goal-oriented

  • Centers on skills, decisions, and direction

  • Supports growth, clarity, and momentum

  • The coach and client relationship is a partnership

Counseling:

  • Addresses mental health, diagnosis, or healing past trauma

  • Typically, the counselor is seen as the authority

My background as a school counselor informs my approach, but life coaching stays focused on present challenges and future progress.

My Background

My work as a life coach is shaped by both professional training and years of experience supporting people through seasons of pressure, transition, and growth.

Before founding On Course Family Coaching, I spent years as a K–8 school counselor, walking alongside students and families as they navigated academic stress, emotional overwhelm, and changing life circumstances. That role required deep listening, steady presence, and the ability to help people move forward without judgment or urgency.

In addition to my counseling background, I am participating in formal coach training through Professional Christian Coaching Institute (PCCI), an International Coaching Federation (ICF)–accredited program. This training grounded my work in ethical, evidence-based coaching practices that are forward-focused, goal-oriented, and centered on personal responsibility and growth.

While coaching is not counseling, this combined background allows me to:

  • Support complex seasons with calm and clarity

  • Ask thoughtful questions that lead to insight and action

  • Help clients build structure, direction, and follow-through

  • Stay focused on progress — not pressure

Life coaching allows me to do the work I love most: offering steady guidance, practical tools, and thoughtful accountability — while helping clients move forward with confidence, purpose, and alignment.

My role isn’t to tell you who to be or what to do.
It’s to help you hear yourself more clearly and move forward with confidence.

Life coaching works best for people who are ready to be honest, reflective, and open to growth — even if they don’t have all the answers yet.

If you’re capable but overwhelmed, navigating transition, or longing for clarity and steadiness, I’d love to walk alongside you.
